INTERNATIONAL FREESTYLE ACE THOMAS PAGÈS TO RETURN TO
THE MONTREAL SUPERMOTOCROSS WITH HIS BROTHER CHARLES Montreal, August 5, 2009 - The organizers of the 32nd running of the Montreal Supermotocross, presented by Coors Lights and Parts Canada, announced on Wednesday the return of Freestyle Motocross (FMX) ace Thomas Pagès to Montreal on October 3, 2009. Last year in his first participation in the great fall classic, the 24-year old Frenchman had the crowd on its feet with his spectacular jumps and cliffhanger flips. This fall, Pagès will be facing stronger opponents, including the eldest member of his family, 28-year old brother Charles, another freestyle competition star rider, who, along with Thomas, recently competed in the Summer X Games. In Montreal, the brothers Pagès will confront Quebec freestyler Benoît Milot, who missed last year's action at the Olympic Stadium because of a fractured ankle, and 22-year old Californian Wiley Fullmer, who is making quite a mark on the FMX scene.
"Tom impressed everyone last year, and fans will surely appreciate Charlie's style which is of the same caliber as his brother's," said Pierre Corbeil, promoter of the event. "Charles is the one who showed Thomas his first tricks. With Benoît Milot and Wiley Fullmer also confirmed for the event, we have an excellent base to work from for a highflying showdown in freestyle competition. More riders will also be announced shortly."
Charles and Thomas Pagès originate from Bretagne, and live in the South East of France. They started racing BMX before switching to motocross. After a few seasons of MX, they built their own ramp and took off from there. Since then, they have competed in the X-Games, the Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour, and the AST Dew Tour. Thomas was the first-ever FMX rider to execute the spectacular Double Grab Seat Flip. This season, fans expect the Pagès brothers to attempt their incredible front flips.
Fullmer and Milot
Wiley Fullmer, from Chino, California came on strong in the FMX scene when in 2006, at the age of 19, he won the Nokia Air & Style Show. Since then he has been a regular on the AST Dew Tour, finishing in the Top-10 point standings each time. His athleticism enables him to extend his limbs to the limits, earning him the nickname The Elastic Man. While doing tsunamis, he is able to touch the front tire of his motorbike with his boots.
Ben Milot is a familiar name to Quebec freestyle fans. He has competed in most of the major FMX events in America and Europe since 2000, the year he won the Montreal Supermotocross freestyle competition. He has competed against the best of them, winning several times at the X-Games, the Step-up World Cup, the Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour, and a dozen high caliber events. Last year, the Yamachiche, Quebec resident missed the Montreal FMX competition due to an injury and acted as a judge during the FMX competition. This time around, he does not intend to miss his "rendezvous" with his two French cousins.
New freestyle track configuration
The organizers of the Montreal Supermotocross also announced on Wednesday that the freestyle competition will be held on a new triangular track layout, which will enable competitors to attempt several consecutive jumps, with each ride lasting up to 90 seconds.
"Our freestyle riders will spend more time airborne, attempt more jumps, and fans attending the event will have more to cheer on. As well, our ramps will be designed to encourage riders to execute more audacious maneuvers," concluded Corbeil.
