Boog battles illness to finish 8th in British GP

Do not think for one minute that sporting heroes are spared the
travails of everyday life. Like any mortal human, they are subject to
the whims of the body, malicious bugs, the sniffles and all in
between. Unfortunately for Xavier Boog, some real nasties from the
microscopic world struck home with a vengeance on the weekend of the
British GP, leaving the Frenchman very much the worse for wear for the
duration of the race weekend. Arriving at Mallory Park already out of
sorts, he hardly closed an eye on Friday night, instead spending most
of the night turning himself inside out.

The young Frenchman was weak and listless as the sun rose on
qualifying day. To save his waning energies, he did not participate in
the first free practice session, and made do with a scant few laps in
the timed practice session. He summoned all his courage as he lined up
for the qualifying race, and after a draining session, managed to
qualify in 11th spot for Sunday's races.

Although he managed to catch a few more hours' worth of shuteye during
Saturday night, Xavier was still far from his bright and cheerful self
on Sunday morning. To add to his woes, he got caught up in a snarl-up
at the start of race 1, dropping him down to a position just inside
the top 20. He battled his discomfort, and still manage to urge
himself forward. Considering the circumstances, the Alsatian did well
to finish 10th after a tough race.

A better start in race 2 brought Xavier and his Teka Suzuki straight
into a top 10 spot. His character again shone through, and after a few
battles, he managed to work his way up to seventh, which is where he
finished the race. The plucky young man earned the kudos of his team
for raking in an 8th place overall in a day on which he would much
rather have remained under the covers. The day was all about damage
control, which he managed to do admirably, but alas, due to the fact
that he was in no condition to adequately defend his world
championship position, he has dropped to sixth in the world standings.

Xavier will hopefully be fully recovered by next weekend, which is
when he will delight his home fans at the French Grand Prix at Ernee.
