BOOG JUMPS TO THIRD IN ADAC MASTERS STANDINGS 14 JUNE 2009 Germany is almost a second home for Xavier Boog. His residence in the Alsace is not far from the German border, his team is German-based, his main sponsor is German, he has a fair knack for the language, well .... you get the idea. Little surprise then that the Frenchman usually enjoys his track outings in Germany. His easy-going personality, command of the language and undeniable skills on the track have made him a big favourite amongst the fans as well, and he has a sizeable following in the country. The ADAC MX Masters series is well in its stride now, and Aichwald was to be the venue for round 4 of the series. The event is as old as the mountains, and Aichwald enjoys a deserved reputation as a not-to-be-missed event. Many factors contribute to this status, amongst these the perfect organization, massive beer tent, good crowds, good weather, and most of all, top-shelf racing. There was plenty, therefore, to motivate Xavier as he set out on his 250cc Teka Suzuki on Saturday afternoon to qualify for Sunday's event. Despite his displacement deficit against the big bangers, he qualified in second position, firing a warning shot across the bows of the opposition. This first race did not turn out all rosy for the young man. A bad start left him mired way down in the thick of the field, and he had to fight his way back from somewhere near 25th position. The fast track meant that there was not much speed differential between riders, and passing was consequently not that easy. He did as best he could , and finally hauled himself all the way back up to 11th position. With a top position in the championship series up for grabs, Xavier was naturally not well pleased, and he probably came as close as anyone had seen him to sulking during the break between races. Although not perfect, the start int he second race was much better for the #121 machine. This time, Xavier was placed just outside the top 10 with a steely glint in his eye. There was a definite take-no-prisoners air about him, and one by one, he disposed of the opposition. Race leader Max Nagl was too far gone, but Xavier managed a very laudable second position in the race. Despite his less than optimal first race, Xavier came to within a few points of an overall podium finish. Moreover, his efforts had put enough points in his piggy bank to lift him to third in the championship standings. Xavier remains on German soil and will have the familiar surroundings of Teutschenthal in view for the next world championship event this coming weekend.
