Kampala

Uganda’s motocross team preparing for the Federation International Motorcycle (FIM) Central Africa MX Challenge has hired a Canadian coach Mitchell Cooke.
The first leg of the annual event takes place at Shell Garuga Race Track on April 11. Kenya and Tanzania are the other countries expected to take part in the competition.

This was revealed by Stephan Duyck, chairman of Uganda MX club at a media briefing held at Le Chateau restaurant on Tuesday. “Apart from training the team, Cooke will also be a guest rider at the event,” Duyck said. Cooke is a professional rider in his native country.

Earlier, Arthur Blick Jr, skipper of the side, said that the Ugandan team will have around 40 riders, while Kenya are expected to bring down 15 riders.
Blick also revealed the return of Ali Nsubuga, former East Africa champion in 2005. Barak Orland will unveil his latest machine, Kawasaki 450cc, 2010 model. “It is the only one in the region,” Blick emphasised.

Fresh Cuts are the official sponsors. Yamaha, Saracen, UAP Insurance, Shell, Mountain Dew, IHK and Fasal who will provide fire fighting equipment are the cosponsors. Entry fee is fixed for Sh5,000 per head.
