CAnadian rally competitor Don Hatton,BC, finished 4th in the Motorcycle Enduro Cup of the 2009 Shamrock Morocco Rally, which is considered a run-up to the Dakar.

Hatton faced a field of nine other entrants in the rally that took him through 2,000 kilometres of severe terrain, including large sand dunes and high heat.

He said later that he was happy with his finish but was somewhat held back by the KTM690 Enduro's stock suspension.

He said suspension travel had been reduced by KTM in order to get a lower seat height. There's more to read on this at destinationdakar.

KTM Canada, Inc. and Orange Motorsports would like to welcome Jeremy Medaglia to the KTM family.

Orange Motorsports a full KTM Canada dealer located in Cobourg, Ontario have long been involved in the motocross scene and have stepped up this year to support Jeremy Medaglia to compete in the 2010 Ontario Provincial and National Series. Running the number “17” this season Jeremy will compete in the MX2 Class on board the ultra fast KTM 250 SX-F, and in the MX2 and MX1 classes locally.

Jeremy has the speed to run at the front of the pack and we are looking forward to helping him reach the next level in his racing career. KTM Canada, Inc. recognizes his tremendous talent on the motorcycle, and the fact that he is a young up and coming Canadian will help Orange Motorsports promote their business locally as well as compete for the National MX2 Championship.

Andy White, KTM Race Marketing Manager says “We have confidence in our product and know that together with Orange Motorsports Jeremy will have all the tools and support required to win races, all he has to do is train hard and show up ready to race.”

Jeremy is excited to start a new chapter with OMS and KTM and says “Coming into the 2010 season I couldn't be any happier with where I have ended up. The Orange Motorsports team and KTM Canada made it an easy decision on who I was going to ride for this year. OMS had a good showing in the 2009 season I will do my best to keep the ball rolling come round one of the CMRC Canadian Nationals. The team took the time right away to make a deal that we both agreed on and I can't thank them enough. This will be my second full year in the MX2 class and I am confident that the KTM 250 SX-F is the bike that will get me to the front of the class. I am really excited to have a fresh start with a new team and believe the combination of my training and the support from my sponsors will bring me a successful year.”

INVITATION TO PARTICIPATE IN CMA STRATEGIC PLANNING - join the Motocross of Nations working group

One of the components of our Strategic Planning process is an assessment of Canada's participation in three FIM World Championship Team events; the historical background, the current situation and where we would like to be short and long term, from 2011 and beyond.

We will be creating 3 separate working groups; one each for ISDE, Motocross of Nations and Trial des Nations. The work will be coordinated by the CMA office and be carried out by email and teleconference over the next year.

It is important that input comes from as diverse a group of people as possible; riders, organizers, industry etc. If you are interested in participating, please send us your request for the particular group you wish to participate in, along with some information about your experience in Enduro/Cross Country, Motocross or Trial as the case may be.

The deadline for application is November 27th.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Racer X Online - Monday Conversation: Dean Wilson

I first met Dean Wilson in the early evening of Saturday, October 3, 2009 in the pit area of the Autodromo Daniel Bonera in Italy. Team Canada, of which the 17 year-old was a member of, had missed qualifying for Sunday’s 63rd Annual Motocross of Nations by one spot. Disappointed, Wilson, who had raced to a fine eleventh in the frighteningly competitive MX2 qualifying moto, was shrugging it all off, hoping to fare better in Sunday’s B Final. And he did, easily beating the other 36 riders on the gate to take the win. The winner of the 2009 AMA Horizon Award and the champion of the 250 and 450 A classes at the Air Nautiques/Amateur Nationals, the Scottish-born-Canadian-raised rider had decided to forgo the last four Nationals of 2009 to make his professional debut in Italy. A polite, friendly kid with a determination in his eyes that seems to burn, Wilson received a bit of very good news recently when word came out of the big white building located smack off the side 91 Freeway in Corona, California, that he had been chosen by racing boss Mitch Payton to join the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki team for 2010. Excited almost beyond words, today we spoke with him while he caught his breath and watched a couple of hose toting workers water down the sun-burned Kawasaki test track

BC's Cory Graffunder has been contracted by Husqvarna Motorcycles North America to compete in the 2010 season. In addition to the full AMA EnduroCross series, the 21-year-old British Columbia native will ride select local, national and international

Rapidly rising off-road star Cory Graffunder has been contracted by Husqvarna Motorcycles North America to compete in the 2010 season. Although the talent scouts have had their eyes on the likeable young Canadian rider all season long, it was his ride at Round #2 of the AMA EnduroCross Series that landed him and his Husqvarna on the podium that really opened some eyes."Cory's first ride on a Husqvarna at the EnduroCross in Oklahoma proved to us that he is someone we should have our eyes on," said Husqvarna Sales & Marketing Manager Scot Harden. "We're very pleased to have him join our Zip-Ty Racing team for 2010." In addition to the full AMA EnduroCross series, the 21-year-old British Columbia native will ride select local, national and international events, including the newly established World Endurocross Championship as well as the time-honored extreme events such as the Erzberg Rodeo in Austria, Hell's Gate and the Red Bull Romaniacs in Romania."Cory is a good choice for our team," said Zip-Ty Racing owner Ty Davis. "He's young and skilled, and he thinks when he's on the bike. His height and riding style also make him strong in the extreme races where you've got to ride smart." Under Davis' tutelage, motocross training will also play a role in Graffunder's training throughout 2010. "Cory has a lot of potential with a very bright future ahead of him.”

"Joining Team Husqvarna and Zip-Ty Racing is a dream come true for me," exclaims Graffunder. "I'm excited about it and happy that all of my hard work has paid off. Things really started to click this past Spring. After I finished in 18th place at Erzburg in 2008, I knew I had to really step up my game," Graffunder explains."I went home to BC and did my homework. In 2009 I finished 5th overall at Erzburg and 7th at the opening round of the EnduroCross... then I got on the Husky and things really started happening! I had never ridden a Husqvarna before, but I really wanted to be on the 250 4-strokes this year. Even with me being a big guy at 190 lbs. I was blown away with both the torque and the fact that the bike was so light," claims Cory!"The big Canadian kid also looks forward to riding the other products in the Husqvarna range like the WR300 2-stroke. "Ty and the guys really proved to everyone just how good the WR300 is by putting it on the podium at the Glen Helen 24 hour endurance race," Cory concludes.
