This weekend marked Round 1 of the 6 race Ontario Provincial Series which was held up near Goderich at Auburn Hills - one of my favorite tracks. It was a crunch to try and get the bikes altogether as I had some issues through the week with both of my bikes which left me with only 2 days of practice. Also, we still had a lot of work to do on the van to get it ready to take the the race as we still hadn't even built the bunk on it yet. Needless to say, I didn't sleep as much as I should of Friday and we got to the track at about 12:30am on Saturday night (Sunday morning I guess?) but everything was ready to go (see attached pics of bikes and van)! They had lots of rain Saturday which wade the track a mudfest so I didn't know how the track would be Sunday as it was very cold (high 30's!) and overcast. Amazingly, the track was absolutely perfect right from practice and although it stayed cold all day the rain held off.
I started the day off with a little get off in practice when I lost the front wheel going up the face of a jump (it was a bit slick) and went over the bars. Luckily my hands were so cold and numb I didn't notice I had tore up my left middle finger and wrist a bit. First aid bandaged me up and I was good to go for moto 1.
MX2 --> This was a small class and was pretty stacked with riders like Keast, Medaglia, and Mesley. I felt I rode good although I wasn't on the pace of the leaders, I capitalized on a couple mistakes and went 5-5 for 6th overall.
MX1 --> There was a much better turn out for MX1 and I had some good battles in both motos. I ended up going 8-9 which probably should of (could of) been more like a 6-7 if the races were a bit longer. I ended up 9th overall.
I felt A LOT better this weekend than last and felt like I rode well. My speed is still not where I want it to be due to lack of seat time but with my track finally all ready to ride and with the school year winding down hopefully I can start getting in a lot more practice through the week. I'm not sure if I'll be racing this weekend at Red Bud but I might just save my money for the long haul the following weekend up to Sand Del Lee for Round 2 of the Provincials.
Thanks for reading!
