MTO Update

OFTR
In our meeting with the MTO on May 14th, 2010, we were given a set of tasks that we will perform in order to move our proposal along. The ministry staff we are working with are willing to present the idea to higher authorities and we still have a long way to go before any changes are made.

We are looking forward to working this process on behalf of our members and appreciate the patience and support that OFTR members provide us to keep our sport active and recognized in Ontario.

It has been a while since we announced any news on trail linkage. We have lots of new members since the ability to convert a trail bike to a street bike was removed by the MTO in 2007, about 700. So here is a brief history about the issue and an update on where we are.

Land Use Update
Norfolk County
OFTR On Thursday May 13, 2010, the OFTR presented to the Norfolk Landscape Committee (NLC) regarding ORM access in Norfolk County. While NLC is not an official committee of county council, the members are comprised of everyone that controls land that we may be able to use for ORM trails.

Norfolk trail riding involves crown land and municipal road allowances (public), woodlots and farmlands (private) and roads (linkage). The only real looped trail experience was in St. Williams forest which has been overused and abused so much that it is no longer an enjoyable trail experience. A new operational plan has been approved by the MNR and it involves closing most of the trails.

We have an opportunity to present a case....click here for more
Cross Country Round #2
Northumberland Trail Riders presents....

OFTRA well arrowed and un-abused course of approx 8 kms of woods and fields without bottlenecks or mud holes.

If you are a trail rider who has wondered about competing, this is the event for you.

This ride is hosted by the Northumberland Trail Riders who used to run the Northumberland Spring Trail Ride. One of the best rides in the series. That forest was closed, mostly due to noise.

Warren Thaxter says this CC course is easy and fun to ride, be there!
